The product is a digital platform that charges a premium for must-have original and aggregated content alongside its workflow solutions and community tools, all of which is tailored specifically to the needs of pension scheme trustees and associated professionals.

We are seeking a bright, self-starting candidate who can demonstrate an enthusiasm for both the challenge of launching a new online product and the subject of occupational pensions provision. They will work alongside the editor of the product to produce and aggregate content, and to assist in its management and delivery. They’ll be encouraged to continuously strive to identify opportunities for future innovation, helping to ensure that the product remains responsive to our users’ needs and the market leader.

They will be required to contribute to the formation and development of the community, interacting and discussing where appropriate so as to draw insight from our users and respond where possible to direct requests for content under the supervision of the editor.

News, analysis, research and educational content will focus on the most important subjects for these users, which include best practice and governance, pension regulation, employment law and investment issues.

The product is a core part of the FT’s UK pensions & investment strategy and the editorial team will work closely with the wider pensions and investment team and with all areas of the FT business, both commercial and editorial.

Responsibilities:
• Research and write articles to daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
• Summarise existing stories
• Generate detailed original story ideas to be developed with editor
• Report to Pensions Intelligence’s editor
• Work with other reporters and editors across the editorial team
• Collaborate with colleagues on stories
• Build and cultivate extensive source network in industry, with emphasis on phone interviews with occasional travel out of London for meetings, conferences, etc
• Participate in the creation and execution of relevant events, as required
• Ensure adherence to Financial Times style and quality standards

Essential skills:
• Minimum 18 months financial journalism experience, preferably with experience of the institutional investment industry/pension scheme issues
• Demonstrated success developing original story ideas and source development
• An understanding of what it means to produce a solely digital product
• Proven ability to meet all necessary deadlines
• Excellent news and feature writing skills
• Ability to be flexible within an integrated team and to adapt to changing needs
• Willingness to participate in the creation and execution of group events

Preferred skills:
• Experience of chairing roundtable events, conference panel debates
• Experience of producing audio/video content for the web
• Experience of writing for online media
• Shorthand
• Language skills, particularly modern European languages
