The product is a digital platform that charges a premium for must-have original and aggregated content alongside its workflow solutions and community tools, all of which is tailored specifically to the needs of pension scheme trustees and associated professionals.
The editor will be entrepreneurial, dynamic and flexible, responsible for leading the editorial team which will include a reporter/deputy; for managing content and delivery.
They are also responsible for identifying and driving future innovation to ensure that the product remains responsive to our users’ needs and the market leader.
The editor will be required to facilitate the formation and development of the community, interacting with our users to derive insight on the industry and to respond where possible to direct requests for content.
News, analysis, research and educational content will focus on the most important subjects for these users, which include best practice and governance, pension regulation, employment law and investment issues.
The product is a core part of the FT’s UK pensions & investment strategy and the editor will work closely with the wider pensions and investment team - it will be key that the editor form strong relationships throughout all areas of the FT business, both commercial and editorial.
Responsibilities:
• Drive the editorial direction of the service, remaining flexible to the ever changing market and adjusting content to meet readers’ needs
• Generate and commission original content on current industry issues daily and in response to user requests, including podcasts, video interviews, roundtables, etc
• Commission and edit all content, both internal and aggregated from third parties
• Report to Pensions & Investment Group UK’s editor in chief
• Work with other editors and reporters in the business as part of an integrated team
• Participate in the creation and execution of relevant events, as required
• Monitor user/traffic statistics to gauge editorial quality
• Manage all direct reports and conduct regular performance reviews and career planning in line with procedures set out by Financial Times
• Ensure adherence to Financial Times style and quality standards
• Form relationships throughout the business, coordinating mutually beneficial projects to continually improve and expand the reach of the product
Essential skills:
• Minimum three years financial journalism experience, preferably with experience of the institutional investment industry and a deep knowledge of pension scheme issues
• Proven ability to meet deadlines
• Excellent news and feature writing skills
• Ability to gather and generate exciting and relevant ideas
• Deep understanding of what it means to produce a solely digital product
• Experience of producing digital content across all media formats
• Experience of writing for online media
• Experience of chairing roundtable events, conference panel debates
• Ability to lead and participate in high profile industry-facing events, such as conferences, seminars, etc
• Proven capability of forging links with the industry, trade bodies, politicians and commentators
• Ability to be flexible within an integrated team and to adapt to changing needs
• Comfortable dealing with multiple projects and deadlines
