The Online Team has a need to increase its expertise in cutting-edge web-technologies and is looking for web-developers to help create world-class digital products.
The person will provide key skills, energy and contribute toward the development of Financial Times digital products. The ability to innovate and work within a team environment is an absolute must.
This is a technical role that requires proven hands-on applications architecture, design and implementation skills.
The person will be responsible for application architectural and design areas on and across key systems within the FT.
They will be required to:
• Work closely with the other architects and technical team leads ensuring that any proposed solutions fully integrate with existing and developing architectural patterns.
• Provide technical leadership working with disparate technical teams, including 3rd parties.
• Provide technical leadership with third party frameworks and libraries (e.g. Hibernate, Spring).
• Ensure cohesion of the systems development activity.
• Ensure solutions are technically robust and are technically fit for purpose.
• Work with project managers to ensure that designs and technical deliverables meet project objectives.
• Monitor technical activity within projects, highlighting major issues and formulating solutions.
• To ensure that development projects are carried out in accordance with the organisation’s agreed standards, methods and procedures.

Essential Skills
Technical skills and experience - essential:
• Minimum of 1 to 2 years senior developer/technical lead/application architecture experience.
• Excellent system integration and problem solving skills.
• A firm understanding of technology and how it may be used to further the aim of the business at large.
• Empathy with emerging web technology.
• Ability to see the big picture whilst being able to drill down on specific details.
• Proven experience with Java 1.5+
• Proven experience with Spring 2+
• Proven experience with Hibernate 3+
• Understanding of UNIX, Scripting and SQL.
• Understanding of HTML (XHTML), CSS and JavaScript.
• Understanding XML, XSLT and DTDs.
• Understanding of the concepts of JEE
• Knowledge of Web and Application Servers, particularly Tomcat 6+.
• Knowledge of Subversion or other source control tools.
• Experience of working in an Agile environment (specifically Scrum) or willingness to learn

• Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of semi and non-technical users.
