Key Tasks;

• Develop and maintain the technology roadmap for the application development technology stack
• Identify and evaluate innovative technologies and development approaches
• Carry out hands-on investigative prototyping and proof-of-concept investigations
• Work closely with development Technical Leads and developers to introduce technologies into the mainstream development process and projects
• Provide technology leadership to initial adopter projects and activities exploiting innovative solutions
• Define, scope and communicate technical project requirements in an Agile environment

Essential Skills

• Proven architectural / development leadership of teams delivering major content-driven websites.
• Agile methodology exposure, preferably Scrum, or a keenness to adopt agile principles.
• Proven experience as a web developer, which should include:
o Production deployment experience of Tomcat / Apache
o Experience of working with open source technologies and frameworks
o Experience of high traffic content-driven websites with global audiences
o Test-driven Design / Development
• Excellent knowledge of Web Development technologies - to include Java, JavaScript, AJAX, XHTML, CSS, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Groovy/Grails, JSON, Flash/Flex/RubyAMF, RESTful architectures
• Knowledge of front-end performance testing & tuning.
• An appreciation of SEO, accessibility, and web standards.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of semi-technical and non-technical users.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with senior business stakeholders.
• Problem analysis and resolution.
• Excellent written and verbal business communication skills.

Preferred Skills;

Bachelors degree or equivalent
Experience of CVS, Subversion and AntHillPro.
Knowledge of any of the following would be useful but not essential:
• EidosMedia Methode - Content Management System
• XML/XSL, Spring Framework, Velocity, Hibernate
Development of applications for mobile devices (Smartphones, BlackBerry, iPhone, Android devices etc.)
