Key Skills
- Perform analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex server and application-based problems that relate to databases.
- Proactively monitor database to ensure optimum performance and recommend and execute modifications to systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability and performance.
- Support development and implementation of projects and new technology installations.
- Lead and participate in the design and review of new systems and application deployments on both workstations and servers.
- Define and deliver systems management processes and toolsets to ensure consistent management of the FT’s MySQL, Microsoft SQL and Oracle estates.
- Create and utilise capacity and availability processes to ensure availability, reliability and scalability of the FT’s Database infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain documentation and standards, for use by support and non-IT staff.
- Review and deploy new service packs, hot fixes, system updates and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
- Proactively monitor database to ensure optimum performance.
- Work as a team to provide 7x24 support for code releases and incident management.
Essential Skills
Hands-on technical experience in MySQL including
Installation, configuration and upgrading
Administration, including tuning and use of MySQL tools
Design and implementation of backup/recovery strategies
Replication and master/slave environments
MySQL Enterprise Monitor
MySQL Storage Engines
Hands-on knowledge of administering databases (Oracle from 8i to 10g and Microsoft SQL Server)
Oracle Enterprise Manager.
Oracle RMAN and Materialized Views experience
SQL, PL/SQL, Shell script
Working technical knowledge of related infrastructure elements (SAN, clustering technologies, Solaris 8-10, Windows 2003).
Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
Proactive approach to support.
Experience installing, configuring and maintaining infrastructure elements.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Industry accreditation.
Preferred Skills
BMC Performance Manager exposure
Experience of server consolidation or migration projects.
ITIL experience / qualifications
Business facing experience.
Familiarity with Agile project methodology
