Job Purpose
To support the FT in maintaining the health of all its employees, and promote best practice in all aspects of work related health issues.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• the day to day management of the Occupational Health service
• to monitor the health of employees
• to help identify health problems and fitness for work issues at an early stage
• formulate rehabilitation programmes/return to work strategies
• work closely with line managers, HR and Health & Safety
• provide a key link between management and the injured or ill employee
• promote employee wellbeing and healthy living
• provide an emergency service and co-ordinate first aiders to ensure prompt treatment and care
• provide a counselling service to all staff to help in maintaining good mental and physical health
• provide pre employment health screening as required by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005
• provide night worker health screening as required by 1998 Working Time Directive
• manage referrals to Company Doctor, G.P. or other specialist help agencies.
• monitor health during and after maternity
• travel health advice and vaccinations
• ergonomic assessment and advice
• occupational stress
• sickness absence management
• Communicate with outside agencies, doctors to gain information about employees (with permission from the employee)
• decide what supplies and equipment are required.

Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse
• Occupational Health Specialist qualification
• Counselling skills training
Skills/Knowledge
• Diagnosis of job related illness
• Knowledge of agencies able to help and support employees
• Knowledge of Health & Safety law
• Knowledge of ergonomics
• Communication skills
• Understanding of physical and mental illness
• Empathy and understanding
• Knowledge of Ethnic differences and the part this plays in job related illness.
• Investigative techniques to help pinpoint accident causes
• Commercial awareness
• Interpersonal skills
• Health promotion skills
Experience
• At least 5 years experience in a multi disciplined Company or industry. Evidence of recent continuous professional development
Desirable
• Experience working within the news paper industry
