The Search Engine Optimisation Manager is responsible for researching, tracking and making recommendations that drive search engine optimisation and search engine marketing. This position requires working directly with technical staff, product managers and our SEO Agency to affect appropriate modifications to FT.com in an effort to optimize search engine relevance.

The SEO Manager must evaluate the current level of relevance, research best practices, develop a system of measurement and make ongoing recommendations to editorial, product and technical teams related to search engine optimization.

Additionally, the SEO Manager will participate in the design of new products in order to ensure that they will enhance search engine relevance. This person will consult with product managers, editorial, designers, business Managers and developers to ensure new projects are as successful as possible

Main Duties and Responsibilities
SEO Thought Leader
Researcher focused on current state of the art in SEO
Manager responsible for developing metrics to track SEO efforts
Effective team player

SEO Thought Leader
Mentor and train editorial, product and technical teams on effective SEO
Own SEO and be the main point of contact for the business on SEO

Manage measurement metrics
Evaluate best practices and develop appropriate metrics that can be used to report on SEO efforts
Validate results and produce periodic reports and presentations showing trends
Evaluate and suggest tools that may be used to enhance measurement

Research SEO practices
Independently research current state of the art of SEO across major search engines
Maintain expert knowledge of techniques used by major search engines
Make innovative contributions based on current and upcoming search engine trends
Evaluate web site content and make suggestions based on research and best practices
Package and deliver suggestions for improvement to both technical and product management teams

Review project designs in relation to SEO
Work with product managers and designers to develop designs that are conducive to SEO
Be prepared to evaluate both content and structure of designs in order to make appropriate suggestions
Develop standards related to SEO that can be employed by product development teams
Mentor product and technical staff in SEO best practices

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability and desire to work with experienced IT professionals in a dynamic, ambiguous environment
  • Ability to develop metrics and reporting that can be communicated across technical and non-technical business units
  • Ability to assess product designs in relation to SEO
  • Comprehensive understanding of SEO best practice, especially regarding major search engines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • CMS experience a plus


    Qualifications
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies: crawlers, search engine algorithms, content relevance
  • Experience with large scale web sites
  • Knowledge of SEO techniques and measurement tools and analytics packages
  • Experience evaluating web site designs in relation to SEO relevance
  • Proven track record for working effectively with technical and business functions
  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience, required
